Badger
Meles meles
The Badger is one our most recognisable and much loved British Wildlife Animals, with its striking black and white face. An adult Badger can live over 10 years in the wild and measure anywhere from 65-90cm in length, weighing up to 17kg.
Badgers are mostly active a night and spend the majority of their days underground in setts, which they dig with their extremely powerful claws. They are very sociable animals and live together in family groups called clans.
Badgers are omnivores and eat a wide variety of foods depending on what they can find, although earthworms are a particular favourite. They have an excellent sense of smell and hearing which makes them perfectly adapted for life after dark.
